Shopping in Florianopolis
Florianopolis is a shopper's paradise. Tourists are spoilt with choices as they can shop with the roadside vendors or visit any one of the modern malls. Traditional covered markets in the historic section of the city sell handicrafts and souvenirs which mainly consist of ceramic pots, jugs and vases, and decorative knick knacks showcasing Florianopolis' culture and folklore. T-shirts with ‘Floripa' embroidered or stamped on them are one of the favourites among tourists. Stores and two shopping malls in the centre of town sell everything from surfing equipment to electronics, all at give-away prices.
An eclectix mix of street side shops and ultra-modern malls will entertain the most avid shop-a-holic for hours!
Whether you are an experienced mall rat or more of a leisure shopper, shopping in Florianopolis has something to offer you. Our Florianopolis Shopping Guide introduces you to the wide range of available shopping opportunities and the vast selection of Florianopolis souvenirs and mementos to look out for. Markets
Public Market
Shopping in Florianopolis is not all modern and chic. The Public Market, built in 1898 under a fig tree which is almost 100 years old, still maintains its old world charm. Whatever time of the day you visit you will find a throng of people at the stalls which sell fresh shrimp, molluscs, oysters and 100 kg groupers. If you happen to be in the Public Market then do not miss Box 32, a café which is frequented by office goers and tourists alike for their mouth watering Portuguese pastries and fresh lager.
