Environmental and wildlife protection, and supporting local community.
It is hard not hard to notice the care and devotion that Mrs Gerta has towards preserving and looking after this extensive forest area. As well as being protected by law, they go well and beyond the call to care for the water springs, flora, birds and local animals.
The lodge is situated over 12 hectares of well preserved Atlantic Forest. Two thirds of this area is preserved by the APP law (Area of Total Preservation), meaning that it is prohibited to change anything in the forest. It provides a great local ecotourism experience.
Projects and actions already in place include water conservation, protecting the surrounding forest; supporting local communities through hiring people who live in the nearby neighbourhood, and helping to educate others about environmental awareness.
As well as this, we work with a local family that lives in the "Sertao do Peri" area (backwoods), who have been producing local "cachaça" for 80 years. The local "cachaça" is highly appreciated by the lodge's guests and provides extra financial support for the local family.
They also can help guests experience the best of the local community, environment and wildlife through activities such as trekking, ecological/cultural excursions, plus whale and dolphin watching.
