The hotel was named after the name the local Indians gave to water channel between the island and the mainland. The Indians called this water channel "Jureremirim" or "small mouth of water." The hotel works steadily with an Indian tribe that is located close to the Florianopolis Island. In order to help the tribe, and to promote the Indian culture among its guests, the hotel sells art and crafts made by these local people.
