Detailed description of the Caring for the Destination Initiative: 

The resort is truly committed to helping protect the environment and helping in various ways throughout the local community. They have two international sustainability certifications: ISO 14001 and Blue Flag.

Costao Do Santinho Resort supports the local community through the education of local teenagers, and a project helping local fishermen with artisanal practices. The resort is passionate about the local environment, and is a member of the Blue Flag Project which helps protect local waters and coastlines. It also supports an environmental education programme with the local schools, benefiting around 2,500 students per year.

Other environmental protection activities include the study and preservation of the fauna and flora on Spider Mountain, and building a water treatment facility with 98% potable water for the re-use of the water. Support is also given to help preserve two unique archaeological sites with rock inscriptions, in order to allow the appreciation and protection of local culture.
